The holiday season is officially over, at least from my end, and I have returned to work. However, during this season, I pretty much had a sweet tooth for everything food and was delighted to try some restaurants while in New York . When I am not traveling, I am usually a home body and like to prepare my own meals; it gives me room for kitchen creativity! Now that I am back, I found a way to prepare my mouth and stomach for my home cooking by eating clean and detoxing for a few days. Hopefully, it would help me shed some unnecessary calories that followed me back from the holidays. So here are a few meals that I have made to retrain my palate:

My Veggie chicken burger: It’s pretty easy to make. Stir fry your bell peppers, basil leaves, eggs and chicken with your favorite ingredients (I used a teaspoon each of curry, thyme, black pepper, celery seed and paprika). I substituted the usual bun for a cabbage leaf. This delicious meal is low in carbs but is filling regardless.

In the mornings, I prepare a veggie smoothie that consists of spinach, mint, lemon and raspberry. I was surprised it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be given that I’m usually skeptical of green smoothies.

Okro soup: is an easy African soup to make and one can pretty much be creative when preparing it. Usually, it is eaten with a form of swallow (a type of dough made from staple foods like cassava or yam) but I just ate it by itself.

Grilled tilapia fish: is a great dinner idea when you want to treat yourself to some good food while still keeping it healthy.

In this past few days, my food choices have only reaffirmed that healthy meals do not have to taste yucky. I’m definitely going to try other healthy recipes.
